What time is it again?

Those of you who are baseball fans are aware that the Major League All Star Game was tonight on Fox. The game was held at Yankee Stadium. In their typical low class asshattery the Yankee fans booed every single Red Sox Player that set foot on the field, including the Manager Terry Francona who by the way won the World Series Last Year.. wait what? Jealous?

But they showed their true colors when Jonathan Papelbon took to the field. They booed his every pitch and chanted “Over Rated” among other bullshit. This was due to some comments that he made earlier in the week saying that he should close the game and not Mariano Rivera. First off, this guy is a competitor and his job is to win and be the best he can be at his role. Of course he is going to want to pitch the 9th inning at the Major League All Star Game. Should he have opened his yap? Probably not. But the NYY fans and media took it to the typical extremes of booing his every move.

They even booed him, and his family on the Major League Parade earlier in the day. They booed him and his pregnant wife on the red carpet before the game causing her to fear for her safety. It’s one thing to love the game, and the rivalry that NYY and BOS hold, its another all together to be completely disrespectful to the players of this game who regardless of their team are All Stars of the MLB. Today was a day to celebrate Baseball in one of its greatest stadiums. It was a day to admire and pay homage to the greatest players of the game. But thanks to typical Yankee fan actions and the NYC Media this day will be forever scarred in history.

Way to go Yankee fans and the New York Media!

web Late Friday night I started reading the various blog and news sites discovering that the iPhone was selling out (which turned out to not be totally true..) regardless I decided to head out to the Apple Store just over the border in New Hampshire. I arrived to find about 20 people in line so we decided to stick it out. They came out and said they had well over 100 8gb iPhones left so I was good to go. It was certainly much better than some folks who had been sitting around in lines for days and camping out.. no need for that.

About an hour later I had my new shiny iPhone. And let me say it’s a pretty impressive device. The only thing I have been disappointed with so far is the battery life however I can’t totally blame that on the phone because I seem to work and live in the lowest service areas in all of Massachusetts so the damn phone keeps trying to acquire and transfer data over a low signal thus using more battery power.

Overall though I have been very impressed with it’s performance. It does what I ask it to do and doesn’t crash or freeze. Mobile Safari is a pretty nice mobile browser compared to the other shitty ones floating around out there all it needs now is some flash support to make it even better. The GPS functionality is really cool and usually it acquires my location in 5-10 seconds. Also you can take a screenshot of any screen on the iPhone if you hold the home button then hit the sleep button, it saves it to your photo roll.

Anyway it’s a short week here for me, in a couple days I head north to Canada to visit Jen’s family.. let’s hope that the data roaming feature works!

iphone3g   So just a couple days now till the much anticipated iPhone 3G hits the stores and I am pretty much 99% sold on getting it at this point. I know I know, it’s an over priced closed device that nobody should buy, don’t pay into the Apple Machine.. blah blah blah. Truth is I never even considered getting the original iPhone instead settling for a iPod touch. I needed an iPod and I didn’t have 300gb of music to store like some folks do and the multi touch screen really appealed to me.

This time around though they’ve pretty much fixed or added anything I didn’t like about the original. First off it was a 1st generation device which you knew would be improved upon in short order. Second it was overpriced, I couldn’t justify the cost of the original plus the data fees. Third there really was no expandability to the device. All of those things among others are now fixed and I honestly can justify the costs associated with it. I’ve used and managed a variety of devices from Windows Mobile, to Palm, to Blackberry. Most of them were a bitch and a half to manage, some downright suck ass (Blackberry I am looking at you..)

The additional features some of which I never expected like Microsoft Exchange Active Sync support and some pretty sweet GPS capability with Google Maps, and even add to that the ability to download and install apps from the new “App Store” pretty much finally sold me on it. Sure you can bag on Apple all you want but what they are doing for the average Joe and for the SmartPhone industry in general is great (ie Mobile Me “Exchange for the Poor Man”). Sure some of this functionality has been around for a while but what makes Apple successful is they make it easy enough for any average Joe to use. Many tech heads can’t look past their own geekery and see that this device appeals to the masses. So even if you can’t do something ridiculous on it or if it doesn’t have some obscure ass feature nobody cares about people will still buy it.

More Camping, Drinking

Camping '08 This past weekend Jen and I made it up to the White Mountains good ‘ol New Hampshire. Specifically we ended up in Bethlehem at a cozy little camp ground which runs year round. The occasion was for my Cousins surprise 29th birthday. We all piled (about 6 of us) into vehicles and pulled up to his house at 10am and surprised the crap out of him when he found out he was about to spend a long weekend of drinking :D (oh and camping of course) Overall it was a good trip and many many beers were consumed, wiffle ball was played, and things were burned (mostly wood..). The campground however left allot to be desired. You were very close to your neighbors, the wood was extremely overpriced and burned like it had been soaked in gasoline, and the asshat camp staff (dubbed the “Asian Pig” for his Chinese Eyes and Pig Nose) talked down to us like we were 8 year olds when we were sitting around chatting after the 10pm “Quiet Time” (Who the fuck goes to bed at 10pm on a vacation?) and on numerous occasions he gave us ultimatums to leave, even had the balls to come up to us at 8:30am the next morning to rub it in some more.

But overall it was a fun time and everyone had a blast. The down side? After arriving home Jen and I were both sick which means the chances of me camping again anytime soon are pretty slim. The outdoors seems to hate me and worst of all there is no Internet. But my iPod brought me and the group solace with music and a carefully selected porn scene as a conversation piece. Go Apple!

Kids and their Porn

Filed Under Porn, Random Thoughts by Hamma

This morning I got to talking on IRC and reading this Penny Arcade Comic and realized just how big of a deal this really is. I remember a childhood that was full of challenges trying to discover the female anatomy. Trying to determine where exactly what was between my legs went. Kids today have no idea how easy it is to access a wealth of knowledge and knowhow on women, sex, and even unmentionable acts that I would have never dreamed of. At the drop of a simple Google search kids can obtain daily web blogs of hot chicks, and even free tours at sites such as Dawson Miller or Met Art give them more knowledge and visual aids than I could have ever hoped for. Full length porns are right out there for the taking if you know where to find them and even sites such as Porno Tube where all you need to do is fill out a fake birth date..

Back when I was a kid I had to resort to digging through boxes of storage items to find maybe a polaraoid or two of a naked woman or a *gasp* Playboy or something. Watching countless hours of Skinimax just waiting for some kind of soft core porn scene, many of which starred Shannon Tweed. Or even watching the distorted picture of a scrambled cable channel where you just *might* get a look at a breast or something. It wasn’t till late in my childhood that I discovered an actual porn movie. However it wasn’t real porn as we would know it today. You would see the act, and get an idea what was going on but you would never actually see the “Business” going on. My cousin later discovered his fathers stash which contained such classics as Debbie Does Dallas (1,2 &3) and Snake Eyes. This was the real porn, actual penetration was visible and finally I was a fulfilled teenager with the knowledge I needed to conquer the world.

I still remember seeing the first naked chick jpeg image.. it was downloaded on AOL for DOS.. yes DOS and viewed on a DOS Jpeg viewer. The viewer was a real bitch to get running it wasn’t something your average kid could do and took me some time. The payoff was well worth it as this began the age as we know it today.

Kids today have no idea how easy they have it.. no idea..

Gas Prices Ridiculous

Filed Under Bullshit, Rants, politics by Hamma

So here we are in the Spring of 2008 and gas prices are continuing to skyrocket day after day. Just last week here the price of gas went up .15 cents in just 2 days. So that led me to wonder how much am I spending on gas this month? I should have just not bothered figuring it out because it was just depressing, but I figured that I am on track to spend almost $400.00 dollars this month. Yep, thats right.. FOUR HUNDRED BIG ONES. And I don’t even have all that long of a commute. About an hour drive every day plus whatever local driving I do at home to get groceries and whatever else.

Prices of food and everything else are going up too, you don’t need my little blog to tell you this. Because truckers who are hauling all this stuff are paying about a grand to fill their diesel tanks. I personally feel the squeeze of the increased cost because I can’t go out and do the things I enjoy anymore. Jen and I can’t go out and grab a bite to eat at our favorite restaurant because we have zero spending money left. And the sad thing is we are living at home right now to save money. I would hate to have a mortgage or a rent to pay right now, I feel for any of you out there who do.

The big question is this, when are our worthless pandering, fucking idiot elected officials going to get off their stupid asses and do something about this? I am not an economist or an expert on gas and oil by any means but this continuing trend needs to be curbed in some way. The fact that prices are not even being driven up by lack of supply is honestly frightening, what does this mean for the summer season? Elderly folks on fixed incomes can’t even drive to the grocery store or the bank because they are spending all their money on gas.

This is the reality of the situation, the human effect. And don’t tell me we need to “Decrease our dependence on foreign oil” or “Drive a cleaner hybrid car” because those are long term solutions that would be wonderful, but America needs solutions now and that shit won’t help us in the near term. While giving everyone in America some cash this summer was a nice thought it isn’t going to do shit to resolve the current situation. Write your congressmen and let them know that something needs to be done, give them real world experiences and give this situation a human face.

Not often does a TV show come along that caters to several of my favorite interests. Those interests of course being Booze and Traveling, the first I have quite a bit of experience with but the second not as much. So I am able to live through Zane on Three Sheets. Three Sheets is a great show on MOJO HD where Zane Lamprey travels around the globe experiencing all sorts of different drinking cultures. From drinking exotic beers to even more exotic hard liquors every show is sure to be a new adventure. I would call Zane the Mike Rowe of drinking shows, he genuinely loves his job, he’s funny, and seems like an all around nice guy.

One of my personal favorites was the Belgium episode, I had no idea there could be so many different flavors of beer from Apple to Orange.. another was the Germany episode because really how can you go wrong with Oktoberfest? (The hot beer chicks helped too yikes :D ) The episodes are always funny and many feature appearances by Pleepleus Zane’s Monkey sidekick. I challenge anyone to sit through an entire episode without craving their favorite drink or beer I know that I have to crack open a brew every time I watch the show.

If you happen to get the MOJO channel (I get it on Comcast) and want to learn more about booze and be amused at the same time then you should tune into this show. If you don’t get it on cable you can get it either on the MOJO Website or on HULU. The new season just started Thursdays at 9pm EST and tonight Zane heads off to Rio..

Yankees take it too far..

Filed Under Bullshit, Rants by Hamma

soxjer_yank Here in New England the Red Sox / Yankees rivalry is the biggest in sports. So when news came out that a Sox fan buried a David Ortiz jersey in the new Yankee Stadium it was top story news. Now one could not be really sure if this was actually done, it could be just some guy trying to freak out the paranoid Yankee fans. But when Yankee’s brass got word that this may be the case they went to the extreme and actually ordered the construction company to start digging (which actually set them back about $50,000). Sure enough after many hours with a jackhammer it turned out that the rumors were true because buried deep in the concrete of the new stadium was a David Ortiz Jersey.

Now I wish the story ended here but look at what the nutjob Yankee’s president said:

“But then we decided, why reward somebody who had really bad motives and was trying to do a really bad thing?”

As if this guy had committed some kind of crime like raping a child or something.. give me a fucking break! Rumors are out there now that the Yankee’s might even be considering criminal action against this guy but seriously, what would you charge him with? Witchcraft for putting a curse on them? String him up from the nearest tree!!!

I know one thing, if I had managed to get a jersey buried I would have kept my yap shut until they were done.. lets see them try and dig it up then!
